ProfessionalPunching Bag Hanging

A heavy bag takes a serious pounding and needs to be hung from a structural ceiling joist or beam — not just the drywall. We locate the joist, install a proper swivel hook or mount bracket, and test the installation before your first training session.

Simple & stress-free

How it works

1

Locate the structural support

We use a stud finder and probe to confirm a solid joist or beam above the target spot, not just drywall, before drilling anything.

2

Install the mount

We drill a pilot hole and drive a heavy-duty eye bolt through the drywall into the center of the joist — or install a ceiling mount plate across two joists for very heavy bags.

3

Rig the bag & test

We attach the chain and swivel, hang the bag, and repeatedly push it at full force from different angles to confirm the mount holds without creak or movement.

We can help

Problems we fix

  • Eye bolt installed into drywall only — catastrophic failure under impact load
  • Bag hung too close to the wall — swings into the wall on follow-through
  • Swivel not used — chain twists and shortens under rotation, raising the bag
  • Single joist does not span the full plate — mount plate not anchored across two joists

Punching Bag Hanging — FAQ

How heavy a bag can you safely hang from a ceiling joist?

A single 1.5-inch eye bolt in a solid joist can typically hold 100 to 150 pounds of dynamic load. For heavier bags, we install a cross-joist mount plate to distribute the load.

Can you hang a bag in a basement with an unfinished ceiling?

Yes. Unfinished ceilings are the easiest install because the joists are exposed and accessible. We select the best joist for the location you want.

Do you install a wall-mounted bag bracket instead of ceiling mounting?

Yes. If ceiling mounting is not possible, a wall-mounted pivot arm is a solid alternative. We handle both.
