How it works
Confirm box location and drop height
We measure from the countertop or table up to the ceiling, confirm the box is positioned over the center of the island, and calculate the target hanging height.
Adjust cord length and wire the fixture
We shorten or extend the cord or chain, connect the wiring, and tuck the canopy tight against the ceiling.
Level, space, and test
For multiple pendants, we measure spacing precisely, check alignment by eye, and power up each one to confirm all bulbs fire.
We can help
Problems we fix
- Pendants hanging too low over an island — ideal is 30–36 inches above the counter surface
- Multiple pendants at uneven heights because drop cord lengths weren't matched
- Ceiling boxes not positioned over the true center of the island
- Single-circuit fixtures that require all pendants to share one switch

Pendant Light Hanging — FAQ
How many pendants should I hang over a kitchen island?
A good rule is one pendant for every 2 feet of island length, with pendants centered and spaced equally. For a 6-foot island, three pendants generally look the most balanced.
Can you adjust a pendant that's already installed but hanging too low?
Yes — most pendant cords can be shortened or coiled inside the canopy. We'll re-adjust the drop without having to replace the fixture.
Do pendant lights need to be on the same circuit as my existing kitchen lights?
Not necessarily. They can be wired to the nearest available circuit as long as it has capacity. We'll advise on the cleanest route.
