How it works
Disassemble the lamp and remove the socket
We take the shade and harp off, unscrew the socket shell, and pull out the socket body to inspect the wiring condition.
Install the new socket and check the cord
We connect the new socket body — hot wire to the brass terminal, neutral to the silver — and run the cord through to inspect for any cracking or damage along its length.
Reassemble and test
We screw the socket shell back down, put the harp and shade back on, plug in the lamp, and confirm steady light with no flicker or buzzing.
We can help
Problems we fix
- Hot and neutral wires reversed on the old socket, creating a shock risk at the bulb base
- Worn lamp cord insulation that becomes a hazard when the lamp is placed near flammable materials
- Wrong socket type ordered — medium base vs. candelabra base or 3-way vs. standard
- Push-through socket shells that aren't compatible with replacement bodies from different manufacturers

Lamp Socket Replacement — FAQ
How do I know if it's the socket or the bulb causing flickering?
Try a fresh bulb first — if it still flickers, the socket contacts are likely worn flat and aren't making consistent contact. Replacing the socket almost always solves persistent flickering.
Can you repair a lamp that has a dimmer on the base?
Yes — inline dimmer switches and touch-sensitive sockets can be replaced. We source the right rotary or touch socket unit that matches your lamp's style.
When should I replace the cord instead of just the socket?
If the cord insulation is cracked, discolored, or stiff, we replace it along with the socket. A new socket on a failing cord is a fire hazard.
