How it works
Plan the layout
We talk through what you use the bench for and design the size and height around that — standing work, sitting work, and clearance for your tallest tools.
Build the frame
We cut and assemble the base using structural lumber, lap-joint or pocket-screw the corners, and square everything before attaching the top.
Surface and anchor
We install the work surface, anchor the back legs to the wall studs, and add the lower shelf if you want storage underneath.
We can help
Problems we fix
- Kit workbenches made from particleboard that sag and delaminate within months
- Bench height that's wrong for the user — too low for standing work means back pain, too high makes sawing difficult
- Benches not anchored to the wall, which rock and slide when clamped work is pulled or pushed
- No lower shelf, so the floor under the bench becomes a tool graveyard

Garage Workbench Building — FAQ
What's the right height for a workbench?
Standing-height bench work is most comfortable when the surface is at wrist height — roughly 34 to 36 inches for most adults. We'll build to your actual measurement.
What wood do you use for the surface?
We use 3/4-inch Baltic birch or pine plywood, sometimes doubled for extra stiffness. It's tough, easy to resurface when dinged up, and takes a finish well if you want one.
Can you add a vise mounting plate to the bench?
Yes. We can build in a proper thick-wood vise apron and drill the mounting holes for a face vise or leg vise as part of the build.
Can you add wall-mounted tool holders above the bench at the same time?
Absolutely — a pegboard or French cleat system above the bench pairs perfectly with the workbench and makes it a complete tool station.
