ProfessionalCustom Pegboard Installation

A pegboard is one of the most versatile storage systems you can put in a garage or workshop — but only if it's mounted solidly with a proper standoff gap behind it. We mount your pegboard into studs with correct spacing, frame it out neatly, and leave you with a wall that holds every hook and accessory firmly.

Simple & stress-free

How it works

1

Mark the layout

We locate studs, mark the perimeter of the board, and install horizontal furring strips to create the clearance gap behind the pegs.

2

Mount the pegboard

We fasten the pegboard through the furring into studs so there's no flex when you load up the hooks.

3

Frame and finish

We add trim around the perimeter to give the installation a finished look rather than a raw plywood edge on the wall.

We can help

Problems we fix

  • Pegboard mounted flat against drywall with no standoff — pegs can't engage properly
  • Sheet only held with drywall anchors that pull loose under the weight of tools
  • Pegboard cut unevenly with no perimeter frame, giving a DIY appearance
  • Hooks that fall out because the board flexes when you reach for a tool

Good to know

Custom Pegboard Installation — FAQ

Does pegboard need a gap behind it?

Yes, a 1-inch gap is standard. Without it the hooks won't seat correctly and the board will flex as soon as you load any weight on a peg.

What size pegboard do you recommend for a garage?

A 4x8 sheet covers a good working section. For larger wall coverage, we can install two or more sheets with continuous furring for a seamless result.

Can you install pegboard over existing drywall?

Yes, but we still anchor the furring into studs through the drywall. We don't rely on drywall anchors alone for a loaded pegboard.

Can you mount both pegboard and a shelf in the same area?

Absolutely. A shelf above or below the pegboard is a natural pairing — we can build and mount both in one visit.
