How it works

1

Remove and prep

We take the shutters off the house, lay them flat, and clean and sand every surface thoroughly before applying any product.

2

Prime and paint

We prime any bare wood or filled areas and apply finish coats, working into the louver channels and edges where paint often peels first.

3

Dry and reinstall

We let the shutters cure fully before reinstalling so they don't stick to the house siding or leave marks on fresh paint.

We can help

Problems we fix

  • Paint peeling from vinyl shutters that were painted without a bonding primer
  • Louver channels collecting water and peeling from the inside out
  • Shutters fading unevenly on south-facing walls from heavy UV exposure
  • Mounting holes enlarging over time and causing shutters to sit loose against the house

Window Shutter Painting — FAQ

Can you paint vinyl shutters?

Yes, with the right bonding primer. Vinyl shutters can be painted, but going significantly darker than the original color can cause warping from heat absorption, so we usually recommend sticking close to the original tone.

Is it better to spray or brush shutters?

Spraying gives the most even finish and gets into louver channels much better than brushing. If we can't spray on-site, we remove the shutters and spray them in a controlled setting.

How long will the paint last on shutters?

On wood shutters with good prep, five to seven years is realistic. Vinyl shutters tend to hold paint for three to five years, depending on sun exposure and paint quality.
