ProfessionalNail Pop Repair
A row of small round bumps marching along a wall or ceiling, each one cracking the paint at its center, is a classic nail pop. It happens when the framing lumber behind the drywall dries and shifts slightly, pushing the fastener head forward until it presses through the paint from underneath. We reset or replace each fastener, cover it properly, and refinish the spot so the whole row disappears.

What you get
What’s included
- Removal or resetting of each popped nail or screw along the affected line
- A new screw driven into solid framing near the old fastener, if the original has lost its grip
- Compound applied over every pop, feathered out so the row doesn't stay visible as a line of dots
- Sanding between coats so each spot sits flush with the wall
- Texture matched to the surrounding surface
- Primer and touch-up paint over the repaired line
Simple & stress-free
How it works
Find every pop in the run
Nail pops rarely show up alone — we check the full wall or ceiling line for other fasteners starting to push through before starting any repair.
Reset or replace each fastener
Each popped nail or screw is either driven back in or replaced with a new screw nearby into solid framing, so the drywall is actually held again, not just covered.
Finish the whole line
Compound is applied and feathered across every spot in the row together, then sanded, textured, and primed so the wall reads as one smooth surface again.
We can help
Problems we fix
- A row of small circular bumps along a ceiling or wall, each cracking the paint
- A fastener that has backed out enough to show bare metal or a dark ring
- Several pops appearing in the same year in a newer home as framing dries out
- A pop that was painted over before without being reset, so it reappears quickly
- Popped fasteners along a ceiling seam where the joist has shifted slightly

Nail Pop Repair — FAQ
What actually causes a nail to 'pop' out of the wall?
It's usually the framing lumber behind the drywall, not the nail itself. As the wood dries and shrinks slightly, it pulls back from the fastener, which pushes the drywall — and the paint over it — forward until it cracks.
Is this just cosmetic, or does it mean something is wrong?
In most homes it's cosmetic and comes from framing settling in as it dries, especially in the first couple of years after construction. It doesn't usually mean the wall or structure is at risk.
If you fix the pops now, will new ones show up later?
It's possible, especially in a newer home still adjusting. Fixing the current pops solves what's visible today; a few new ones appearing elsewhere later is normal lumber movement, not a sign the repair failed.
Can you fix nail pops on a ceiling, not just walls?
Yes. Ceiling pops are repaired the same way — the fastener is reset or replaced, compound is feathered over the spot, then textured and primed to match the surrounding ceiling.
