ProfessionalDrywall Seam Taping

Cracking seams between drywall sheets are one of the most common wall problems in older homes, especially in areas with seasonal humidity swings. We open the crack, apply mesh tape and new compound, and feather it out so the seam disappears.

How it works

1

Cut out and clean

We remove any failed tape or crumbling compound back to a solid edge, then coat the seam with fresh joint compound.

2

Tape and build up

We embed tape in the compound and apply additional coats, widening each one to feather the edges into the surrounding wall.

3

Sand and prime

Once fully dry, we sand the seam smooth, wipe dust away, and apply primer so the repair blends with the rest of the wall.

We can help

Problems we fix

  • Seams cracking repeatedly because of seasonal expansion and contraction in the framing
  • Bubbles in tape where compound was too wet when the tape was embedded
  • Ridges along the edge of a repair where the compound wasn't feathered wide enough
  • Seams cracking in hallways and stairwells subject to heavy foot traffic vibration

Drywall Seam Taping — FAQ

Why do seams crack in the same spot over and over?

Recurrent cracks are usually tied to seasonal wood movement in the framing. We can use fiberglass mesh tape and setting-type compound for a more rigid repair that resists cracking better.

Can you fix a seam that spans a long horizontal crack?

Yes. Long horizontal cracks across a ceiling or wall are treated the same way — we tape the full length and feather the compound out wide on both sides for a smooth finish.

Do you need to paint after seam repair?

The repaired area needs primer and paint to blend in. If you're painting the whole wall, the timing works perfectly. For spot repairs, matching the existing paint helps, but some color variation is normal.
